A marathon is a special challenge for athletes. Here, the athletes have to run 42 kilometers in one go.
Many marathon runners train for an event like this for a whole year. You have to be constantly in
shape to keep up with this goal. Legend has it that in ancient Greece, during a battle, a messenger ran from the city of Marathon to Athens to announce the Athenians' victory. It was about 40
kilometers. This messenger collapsed upon arrival in Athens and died a lot.
