While almost all carriages could be delivered by May 1963, the completion of the locomotives E 10 1308 to 1312 designated for the "Rheinpfeil" was delayed until October 1963. As was the case a year earlier with the "Rheingold", five series locomotives (E 10 250 to 254) were painted in cobalt blue/beige and temporarily received the already existing Henschel bogies for 160 km/h of the final E 10.12. Unlike the "Rheingold", these machines retained their original operation numbers.
