150 years ago, the foundation stone was laid for this railway connection between Hungary and 
Austria. On October 15, 1872, Emperor Franz Joseph I granted the concession for the construction of 
a railway line from Győr (Raab) via Sopron (Ödenburg) to Ebenfurth in Lower 
Austria. The section between Győr and Sopron was opened in 1876, followed by the remaining section 
to Ebenfurth in 1879. The entire line has been electrified since 1988.

The Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurt Railway AG, known today as Raaberbahn (in Hungary GySEV), connects 
Austria and Hungary and continues to operate as an important public transport link. To mark its 
anniversary, locomotive 470 504 received a striking advertising design in May 2022.
