In the 1950s, Waggonbau Bautzen built a short freight wagon on behalf of DR. More than 200 cars were purchased in two series.
As a special feature, the cars had built-in end signals, whose red and white surfaces could be covered with swiveling panels. From 1964, the cars were also used on branch lines in passenger trains. These cars received addresses according to the passenger car scheme with the designation D. From 1977 onwards, those used exclusively as personal baggage cars were renumbered to Daa.
