The beginning of AKE's rail tourism from 1988 onwards lay in the implementation of special tours 
with rail buses and steam locomotive trains in the Eifel. Thanks to a collaboration with DB 
Historische Verkehres, the travel program was also able to grow nationwide under the motto "Holiday 
from the beginning". From 2005 onwards, AKE therefore gradually built up its own fleet. With two 
exceptions, these were TEE buses built between 1962 and 1974 and also used in the TEE "Rheingold". 
They were given their original paint in beige/purple red with a black-grey apron, and the interior 
still partly reflects the original condition, depending on the degree of modernization.
Over the years, the fleet grew to over 20 high-quality passenger cars, which form the historic "AKE-
Rheingold". On one-day or multi-day trips, this takes guests comfortably and with first-class 
service to their destinations in Germany, Denmark, Austria, northern Italy and Switzerland. Fresh 
food is prepared in the dining cars, which is why the two WRmz135s in the train are always coupled 
together on the kitchen side.
In close cooperation with AKE-Eisenbahntouristik, a selection of the various vehicles from the 
existing fleet will be published this year as a stand-alone special series. The space cars included 
in the sets represent a representative cross-section of all variants of the AKE-Rheingold. At first 
glance, barely recognizable differences in paint and lettering have been taken into account down to 
the smallest detail.
With the additional car 62 00 126, the train can be reinforced to the usual 13 to 14 cars on AKE 
trips.
