The beginning of AKE rail tourism from 1988 onwards was the implementation of special trips with 
rail buses and steam locomotive trains in the Eifel. Through a collaboration with DB Historische 
Verkehrs, the travel program was also able to grow nationally under the motto "Holidays from the 
beginning". From 2005, AKE therefore gradually built up its own vehicle fleet. With two exceptions, 
these were TEE carriages, which were built between 1962 and 1974 and were also used in the TEE 
"Rheingold". They received their original paint back in beige / pure red with a black-gray apron, 
the interior partly reflects the original condition depending on the degree of modernization.
Over the years, the fleet grew to over 20 high-quality passenger train carriages that make up the 
historic "AKE-Rheingold". This brings guests comfortably and with first-class service to their 
destination in Germany, Denmark, Austria, Northern Italy and Switzerland on one or more day trips. 
Freshly prepared in the dining car, which is why the two WRmz135 are always coupled together in the 
train combination on the kitchen side.
In close cooperation with AKE-Eisenbahntouristik, a selection of the various vehicles from the 
existing fleet will be published this year as a unique special series. The space cars in the sets 
represent a representative cross-section of all variants of the AKE-Rheingold. At first glance, 
there were hardly noticeable differences in the painting and markings were taken into account down 
to the smallest detail. With the additional transport 62 00 126, the train can be reinforced to the 
13 to 14 cars that are customary in AKE trips.
