Gas Tank Car Set, ZAG 620 of the DB, white, Epoch III Model of a pressure gas tank car Zag with a capacity of 620hlScope of delivery: - Westfalengas 525 846 - Drachengas 559 166• Etched steps and walkways • Separately applied brake details • Freestanding handrails • Etched nameplates with delicate mounting struts • Freestanding discharge valves and shut-off devices • Multi-part bogies of the Minden Dorstfeld type with freestanding rectangular drawbars • Wheels with profiled sidesTo supply companies and private homes with liquefied gas for heating, various companies acquired pressure gas tank cars. As gas pipelines were not yet widespread until the 1980s, there were gas depots, especially in rural areas, which were served by rail and delivered liquefied gases such as propane or butane by truck to households. Grouped in wagon sets or as individual cars, these pressure gas tank cars, initially with a yellow and from the late 1960s with an orange band, are found in many freight trains on main and secondary lines. Many companies in the chemical industry also needed pressure gas tank cars for shipping their products, and thus the wagons often featured large logos of their owners or lessees. In the early 1960s, gray-white or pebble-gray started to prevail over the previously common iron gray. Most four-axle types featured so-called bottom discharge, meaning the flanges and valves are located at the bottom of the tank. The Zag design code indicates that the vehicle is a tank car (Z) with four or more wheelsets (a) for compressed, liquefied, or pressure-dissolved gases (g). The Pullman model replicates a four-axle 620hl pressure gas car from the Uerdingen wagon factory, primarily delivered to wagon lessors such as Eisenbahn Verkehrsmittel A.G. EVA. The manufacturer, later merged into VTG, was a shareholder of EVA. Characteristic for the Uerdingen wagons with a fitted sunshade roof was the comparatively large roof overhang with radially extending spacer sheets. The central manhole on the non-handbrake end side was common for new builds until about the mid-1960s.
