It all started with the "Spanish Buns"—a delicious pastry from the Swiss spa town of Baden. That's
not entirely accurate, of course, but on August 9, 1847, the first railway built in Switzerland,
running from Zurich to Baden, began scheduled service. Now, the servants of Zurich's high society
could comfortably collect the famous pastries early in the morning, arriving by train, and deliver
them punctually to the Sunday breakfast table without having to undertake a long hike to Baden and
back. As a result, the route soon became known as the "Spanish Bun Railway." In the following years,
a railway construction boom swept through Switzerland, reaching a track length of 2,457 km within 35
years. Finally, between 1902 and 1909, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) were formed through the
nationalization of five major railway companies. Subsequently, an increasingly dense rail network
developed across Switzerland, which is still extensively used today. The Swiss boast an
exceptionally high level of rail travel, with the average person traveling approximately 1,800 km by
train per year. To mark this momentous anniversary, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) are presenting
an electric locomotive with a striking special livery. The chosen locomotive is the Re 420 251
(formerly Re 4/4 II 11251), a versatile class that formed the backbone of SBB's locomotive-hauled
services for decades. With 276 units built between 1964 and 1985, it also represents the largest
number of locomotives ever built for the Swiss railways.

Prototype: Re 420 electric locomotive of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), SBB Cargo division.
Special livery commemorating the "175 Years of Swiss Railways" anniversary in 2022. Road number
Re 420 251-1. Operating condition 2022.

Model: Equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. Controlled high-
efficiency propulsion with flywheel, centrally mounted. 4 axles driven via cardan shafts. Traction
tires. Directional triple headlights and one white marker light (Swiss light change) operate
conventionally; digitally switchable. Lighting can be switched to one red marker light when running
solo, or two red marker lights when running solo in Germany. Headlights on locomotive ends 1 and 2
can be switched off separately via digital control. When the headlights are switched off on both
ends, the double-A lights on both ends function as a red emergency stop signal. High beams, cab
lighting, and engine room lighting can each be switched separately via digital control. Lighting
with maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs. Metal grab irons. Couplers can be exchanged for the
included front aprons.

Length over buffers 17.1 cm.
