The exemplary EW 1 passenger coaches are making their debut in the Märklin range. Developed in the
mid-1950s as successors to the lightweight steel coaches, the EW 1 coaches were approved for higher
speeds (140 km/h) and offered greater capacity compared to older models.

Prototype: Set consisting of a steam locomotive with oil firing, road number 141 R 1244, for mixed
traffic, in the livery of the French State Railways (SNCF). Three different EW 1 passenger coaches.
Coaches in the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB/CFF/FFS) museum livery. Two 2nd-class coaches and one
1st-class coach; operating condition as of 2026.

Model: Equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. Controlled high-
efficiency propulsion with a flywheel in the boiler. Four axles powered; three axles driven via
coupling rods. Traction tires. Locomotive and tender constructed largely of metal. Factory-installed
smoke generator. Direction-dependent headlights (alternating white/red) operate in conventional mode
and can be controlled digitally. Switchable to a single red tail light. Cab lighting, running gear
lighting, and firebox/burner flicker can be controlled separately via digital functions. Lighting
provided by maintenance-free warm-white and red LEDs. Close coupling with kinematics between
locomotive and tender. Close coupling with NEM pocket and close-coupling mechanism on the tender.
Buffer height on the locomotive and tender conforms to NEM standards. Minimum radius for operation:
360 mm. Piston rod sleeves and brake hoses are included. Various accessories are included for the
passenger cars. Total length over buffers: approx. 110 cm.
