From the mid-1950s, the German Federal Railways acquired a total of 942 locomotives of the V 60/V 
60.1 series for light and medium-duty shunting. The difference between the V 60 (260) and V 60.1 
(261) series is the higher friction load in the BR 261. The machines reach a top speed of 30 km/h in 
shunting and 60 km/h in line gear. The output is 478 kW. After the first phase-outs in the 1980s, 
many examples reached railways both at home and abroad.
