From 1936, the German State Railroad Company (DRG) put streamlined express cars into service. The 
windows and doors were installed flush with the outer walls of the car; the side walls ran down over 
the actual end of the car and between the bogies. The "skirted car" thus achieved significant 
reductions in wind resistance. In 1974, eight dining cars with skirts were painted sea blue and 
beige.
